Some might quibble with the assertion (which appears to have originated on Wikipedia) that the popularity of Dave Clark Five "rivalled that of the Beatles". Their only No. 1 hit was 18 months behind them at the time the film was released, and their previous five singles (before the title song of the film) had struggled to make the Top 20.
